The Initiative “Hamburg Learns Sustainability” is a network organization of city administration, businesses, educational institutions and NPOs in Germany's second largest city, the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg (population about 1.8 million). In order to integrate the sustainability and modern methods into education and to implement the ESD, which each stakeholder had carried out since 2005, more scientifically and systematically throughout the city, it developed the “Hamburg Master Plan ESD 2030,” an ESD strategy consisting of important fields of actions and measures for the period up to 2030 in all educational areas: early childhood education, schools, universities, vocational training, non-formal education, and district (municipalities). To develop the plan, in total, more than 140 representatives from over 70 institutions were involved, and formed a steering group to control the entire process. The plan was approved by the Hamburg Senate in 2021, and inaugural events and forums for implementation have been held actively.

Green Growth Africa Sustainability Network (Green Growth Africa) is an NGO committing to raising global support for greener and climate-resilient Africa with more than 1,400 members of professionals and students from 139 countries in the world. In its Environmental Education Programme, students in secondary schools across Africa are empowered to gain knowledge on environmental issues such as climate change and nature conservation. Since 2018, it has held annual online competition encouraging groups of students and a coordinating teacher to identify environmental challenges and needs in their community and propose project ideas on how they could address the issues by applying the knowledge they acquired at school. Selected groups receive specific expertise from the experts in the network and execute the projects in their communities throughout a year. Over 3,500 students, teachers, women and community members across Africa have been impacted so far.
