Objectives of the Okayama ESD Project

This project has been implemented with the six objectives below:

  1. To increase the public educational level by cooperating together and promoting ESD more effectively through providing opportunities and venues for the acquirement of the latest knowledge, the exchange and interchange of opinions with various organizations, institutions, people in charge, and educators that are engaged in environmental education and international education.
  2. To promote environmental education and international education from the perspective of ESD by providing and introducing activity materials and information about ESD, sending outreach instructors, supporting activities, and evaluating each activity for the designated organizations as needed.
  3. Based on the results of this project, some methods, programs and curriculums should be established for promoting ESD according to the specific characteristic of each region.
  4. To shape normal citizens, who usually pursue individual goals, into citizens who can take the initiative in cooperation with other people in their communities to build a sustainable society by incorporating the viewpoint of ESD into environmental education and international education.
  5. To contribute to the building of sustainable society worldwide by introducing the achievements of this project to the world through the United Nations University and also increasing the opportunities for cooperation and exchange among people from home and abroad.
  6. To serve as a case study for people concerned with ESD in Okayama region, who will deepen the level of cooperation among themselves and others, in order to promote a better and more effective ESD based on the achievements and challenges of the project.
