The Okayama Creative City of Literature Promotion Council

Okayama City has long been working to revitalize the community through a variety of literary projects centered on the Joji Tsubota Literary Award. In March 2022, a proposal was submitted to the Okayama Mayor to further promote the "creating a city, rich in spirit through literature." The council will promote the project to create a creative city with literature.

At the first meeting held in May 2022, the mayor of Okayama City expressed his intention to apply for membership in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, and council members decided to work together for "cultivating minds through literature. Since then, several meetings have been held to discuss new projects and the contents of city of literature. The "Okayama Literature Festival 2023" was promoted by members as collaborative events of the council.
