Preparing for an Earthquake

Safety precautions in the home

Position furniture safely

Keep the majority of your furniture in rooms that you use less frequently. If you have furniture in the room where you sleep, make sure that it is positioned so that it won't fall on you.

Fix furniture in place to keep it from falling

Avoid gaps between your furniture and walls/columns, and use items designed to keep stacked furniture from falling over, as well as L-shaped fixtures and special sheets designed to hold furniture in place.

Keep hallways and entrances/exits clear

Keep hallways and entrances/exits unblocked to ensure that there is an escape route.

Place shatterproof film on windows

Apply the film not only to windows but also to glass on items such as hutches, picture frames, etc.
