Installation of Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

What is an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)?

An Automated External Defibrillator or AED is a device that allows a heart with potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias, including ventricular fibrillation, to return to a normal condition by applying electric shocks. Ventricular fibrillation is a condition where a ventricle is quivering, which then prevents blood from circulating through the entire body. First, when the electrode pads are applied to the patient, the device will automatically analyze the electrocardiogram waveform of the patient and decide whether or not electrical defibrillation treatment is required. Only when the patient needs the treatment, the device switches on when the operator presses the button. The device is designed not to switch on its own after deciding that the defibrillation treatment should not be conducted. The device is equipped with various safety functions for the operator, such as an automated voice warning system.
